With
the new clutch installed and broken-in for
a few hundred street miles, we headed out
to the track again on January 22nd, just in
time to get some results for this issue.
Our first run, taking it very easy on the
launch and shift points, resulted in a 12.80
at 113 mph. A few more passes were made, each
time taking the launch rpm slightly higher.
The ET's would work their way down a tenth
or two at a time. Finally we hit a 12.31 at
115, on a 1.80 60 ft. We knew the car still
had quite a bit left, as we were no where
near our best 60ft of 1.67.
A few runs later, with confidence that the
clutch was doing it job, the ET Streets were
heated up real good, and the launch was raised
to 5000 rpm. Shift points were now at 6700
rpm. This resulted in a 12.13 at 116mph, on
a 1.73 60ft time. This was the fastest run
of the day. Shortly
after another car oiled down the track, so
we called it a day and decided that we'll
save 11's for another day. All in all the
day was a success. The engine performed better
than we'd expected for the first time out.
In fact, we performed no tuning whatsoever
that day. The timing was left at 18 deg initial
and 40 deg total, and the jetting in the 750
Holley double-pumper was 74/primaries and
78/secondaries. All runs were made with the
Ram
Air Box intact.
